Utthan is a Gujarat based nonprofit modeled around gender just and inclusive community empowerment through capacity building, local leadership and institutional development at several levels. Developing just and equitable demonstrations, both technical and social, around people’s institutions of marginalized communities since 1981 has helped Utthan demonstrate best and brave practices and is a mechanism which lends sustainability and a clear multiplier impact. Addressing the issues of the most marginalized through a decentralized structure, it consciously engages local, committed women and men who lead operations and partake in decision making. Promoting peaceful coexistence, ensuring human rights, gender justice and inclusive, sustainable development for positive change in the status of the marginalized forms the core of Utthan’s approach.
Utthan is registered under the Bombay Public Trusts, Act 1950 and under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act. Indian donations to Utthan are exempt from Income tax under Section 80G of the Income tax Act, 1961.
